Maxie Lawton, Esq.

Biography

Maxie Lawton is a co-founder of The Phoenix Trial Firm and represents clients throughout Hampton Roads and across Virginia in personal injury, criminal defense, DUI, and serious traffic matters. A former U.S. Army Ranger, he brings disciplined preparation, direct communication, and steadfast advocacy to matters that may affect a client’s health, freedom, driving privileges, finances, or future.

Before entering the legal profession, Maxie served in the U.S. Army Special Operations community. After sustaining a traumatic brain injury during an IED incident, he faced the demanding process of relearning how to walk, speak, read, and write. That experience shaped the resilience and perspective he brings to clients confronting uncertainty and significant personal consequences.

Maxie earned degrees from Hampton University and SUNY Maritime before receiving his J.D. from The George Washington University Law School. At The Phoenix Trial Firm, he applies his military discipline and legal training to investigating facts, evaluating risk, and building strategies around each client’s circumstances and goals.

Outside the courtroom, Maxie remains active in the Hampton Roads community through legal-education events, mentorship, back-to-school initiatives, and other community programs.
