Maxie Lawton, Esq.

Maxie Lawton represents people injured in car accidents and other motor vehicle collisions throughout Hampton Roads and across Virginia. As a co-founder of The Phoenix Trial Firm, he helps clients navigate insurance claims and pursue compensation for the medical expenses, lost income, pain, and disruption that can follow a serious injury.

For Maxie, the challenges of injury and recovery are personal. Before becoming an attorney, he served in the U.S. Army Special Operations community as an Army Ranger. After sustaining a traumatic brain injury in an IED incident, he faced the demanding process of relearning how to walk, speak, read, and write. His recovery shaped the perspective he brings to clients whose injuries have interrupted their work, routines, independence, and family lives.

That experience informs his approach to representation. Maxie understands that a medical record cannot capture every way an injury changes someone’s life. He takes time to understand his clients’ circumstances, explain their options, and build their claims around the evidence and the consequences they face.

At The Phoenix Trial Firm, Maxie brings disciplined preparation and direct communication to injury matters. His approach includes examining how a collision occurred, reviewing medical and wage documentation, evaluating potentially available insurance coverage, and addressing disputes over responsibility and compensation. He approaches settlement negotiations with careful preparation and evaluates litigation when appropriate for the client’s circumstances and goals.

With offices in Hampton and Smithfield, the firm serves individuals and families throughout Hampton Roads and elsewhere in Virginia. Its commitment to resilience, advocacy, and personal attention reflects the values Maxie brings to his practice.

Outside his legal work, Maxie remains involved in the community through mentorship, legal education, back-to-school initiatives, and programs supporting local children and families.
