We help people injured in Uber and Lyft collisions, including passengers and people struck by rideshare vehicles. We investigate how the crash happened and which insurance applies to the driver’s actual trip status.

Your Surry collision: details that matter

If an app-booked passenger trip passed through Surry, save the booking and full trip timeline, including any interruption. We distinguish rideshare activity from a private ride or other transportation service before evaluating insurance.

The Jamestown–Scotland Ferry connects Surry County and James City County, with the Scotland landing reached by Route 31 from Surry. For a roadway collision during that trip, preserve the actual crash location and direction. The origin or destination of a ferry journey does not establish where the collision occurred. VDOT’s Jamestown–Scotland Ferry information provides local context.

If injury-related restrictions or transportation problems disrupt treatment, tell your provider and keep accurate appointment records. We ask about travel, work, and household effects so the claim reflects supported losses rather than assumptions.

Virginia DMV explains how eligible people and their representatives can request a police crash report. You do not need a complete report before contacting us.

Match the collision to the app’s timeline

Save the trip receipt, booking details, driver and vehicle information, messages, crash time, and every insurer’s claim number. Keep original screenshots and files. A driver waiting for a request, traveling to pick someone up, and carrying a passenger can present different coverage questions.

We review the conduct of all involved drivers rather than assuming the app driver was responsible. Your treatment records, wage documentation, and day-to-day limitations remain essential even when the insurance investigation is complicated.

Insurance, treatment, and compensation

Virginia’s TNC insurance statute sets different requirements for different periods of rideshare activity. From acceptance of a prearranged ride request through completion as specified in the statute, it requires primary liability coverage of at least $1 million and UM/UIM coverage. Waiting-period requirements differ. These are coverage requirements, not a promise of compensation; liability, covered status, damages, and policy terms still matter.

A separate rule addresses UIM coverage while a passenger is in the vehicle. We review the trip facts and policies before advising on an offer or release. Learn how UM/UIM issues can affect an injury claim.

How we move your injury claim forward

We compare the collision evidence with treatment records, bills, wage documents, and your account of daily limitations. We present supported losses, address insurer objections, and discuss offers with you. When litigation is appropriate, we prepare for discovery and trial as needed. You decide whether to accept a settlement after discussing its terms. Our claim-process guide explains the stages.

Virginia’s contributory-negligence rule can bar a negligence recovery if your own negligence proximately contributed to the injury. An insurer’s accusation is not the final word. We examine the evidence, causation, and any applicable exceptions. Virginia’s civil model jury instructions explain these principles.

Virginia Code § 8.01-243 generally sets a two-year period after a personal injury claim accrues to file suit. Exceptions and other notice requirements can affect your case. Negotiations do not replace a timely lawsuit; we check the dates and parties early.

Questions you may be asking

What if the Uber or Lyft driver was not at fault?

The other driver’s liability coverage may be relevant, and UM/UIM coverage may require review. The app’s involvement does not eliminate the need to prove responsibility and injury.

Does every rideshare crash provide a $1 million recovery?

No. Required insurance is not an award. The trip period, policy, parties, fault, documented losses, and other facts determine what may be available.

Can I ask for help if I was outside the rideshare vehicle?

Yes. Drivers, passengers in another vehicle, and pedestrians may have bodily injury claims. Tell us where you were and how the collision happened.

Fees and the next step

Our personal injury agreement provides for attorney fees of 35% of gross recovery before a lawsuit is filed and 45% after litigation begins. We advance litigation costs, reimbursed from a recovery. Under that agreement, no recovery means no attorney fees or those case expenses owed to our firm. Medical balances and liens are separate. We explain the written agreement and potential deductions before you decide to retain us. See our fees and case expenses guide.
